With the arrival of smart machines and the IIoT, the once compartmentalized worlds of IT and OT are beginning to follow similar standards to operate more efficiently. Due to this inevitable convergence of IT and OT and the greater demand for seamless communication across many connected devices, networks will require an increasing amount of bandwidth. Our conclusion? Full gigabit networks are the standard of the future.

This blog takes a closer look at the topology of a typical automotive manufacturing network, highlights each of its three network segments and looks at how the function of these segments must change as full gigabit networks become the new norm.
