Time-sensitive networking (TSN) is a highly anticipated and widely discussed set of IEEE Ethernet standards for the industrial world. However, end users oftentimes express a certain wariness due to the perceived configuration complexity of TSN.

Although not considered a plug-and-play technology, several standardization groups are taking steps to simplify the TSN configuration and integration process. Key aspects of these important activities for end users are finding the right level of abstraction for human operators and automating the low-level configuration details underneath. These steps ultimately enable a user-friendly experience when applying TSN technology to industrial networks.

Read on to learn more about these ongoing TSN activities and best advice when thinking about TSN configuration in the future.

Are you ready to embrace the benefits of an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)-based system? One key component that will impact your ultimate success is security. Proper security measures and protocols play a critical role in not only protecting sensitive data, but preventing damage to your systems, facilities, employees, the environment – and even your company’s reputation.

To learn more about the importance of security in the deployment of an IIoT system, read more from guest blogger Fabrice Jadot. Fabrice is chief technology officer at Schneider Electric, a Belden partner. He’s also a board member of ODVA, an international association comprised of members from the world’s leading automation companies. Here, he shares his perspective on how security challenges affect the different aspects of an IIoT deployment.

As demand for mass transit increases in densely populated urban areas, so do passenger demands for more entertainment, on-time delivery and safety. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and impending technologies like Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) are making this possible.

TSN is a novel technology, currently in development at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), that offers an entirely new level of determinism in standard IEEE 802.1 and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet networks. Standardizing Ethernet networks with TSN will deliver an important capability: deterministic, time-critical packet delivery.

It represents the next step in the evolution of dependable and standardized automation technology and is certainly the next step in improving railway communication. Click “Read More” below to learn more.

If you follow new trends and technologies in automation and communication, you’ve likely been hearing a lot about time sensitive networking (TSN). But, since it’s a relatively new technology, have you been wondering, “what is TSN?” and “why does it matter to my company?”

As you may have read in this previous post about TSN, this new technology transforms standard Ethernet from an “I’ll get it there as soon as I can” communications technology to one that provides timing guarantees for mission-critical applications.

Now, you can achieve an entirely new level of determinism in IEEE 802.1 and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet networks. Click “read more” below to find out what TSN means for the future of Ethernet Networks and how it actually works.
