The EIA is the Electronic Industry Association. It sets standards for the electronic industry but is best known as the body which sets standards for Category 3, 4, 5, and similar data products. It has a brother organization, the TIA (Telecommunication Industry Association) and they often put standards out together (TIA/EIA).
