Pre Sales Engineer

My Objective

To successfully operate as the Technical & Application expert during all pre-sales activities with identified target customers or markets within a defined geographical region, ensuring the Sales team achieves profitable business growth with existing accounts and new business by delivering customer orientated solutions.

Principle Job Accountabilities

  • Timely Support

    Ensure timely and effective support is provided to the Sales team during all pre-sales activities in alignment with the achievement of company sales targets

  • Technical Expertise

    Provide Technical expertise to the Sales team during qualification and while verifying the needs of the customer

  • Identify Customer Issues

    Identify, define and document customer issues that will drive the development of a Belden solution for the customer. This could include specifying intelligence gained from engagements with the customer to support commercial business cases.

  • Meet Expectations

    Identify, design and document solution designs that meet the customer’s expectations, and be able to proactively demonstrate the relevance of the recommended solution to the customer.

  • Provide Guidence

    Provide guidance to Service teams during any project hand-off phase to ensure customer expectations are met.

  • Training Materials

    Provide timely input into the creation of training materials to ensure high quality knowledge transfer, ensuring content reflects a high level of customer voice.

  • Customer Training

    Deliver training to the customer based on Belden solutions at field technical and engineering levels.

  • Customer Proposals

    Develop and deliver technical proposal presentations to customers.

  • Proof of Concept

    Plan, organize and implement proof of concept installations or demonstrations.

  • Field Trials

    In cooperation with Sales, facilitate and document Field Trials of Belden’s products in the customer’s facility. Including documenting current state, identification of issues and provision of input to a business case for change.

  • Build Relationships

    Build and maintain strong professional relationships with key Technical Influences and Decision Makers at the customers, both current customers and target customers and their value chains.

  • Product Portfolio

    Proactively maintain Technical and Application knowledge of Belden’s product portfolio, keeping abreast of new technology advances in the defined market(s)

Knowledge & Experience


  • Possess an engineering or electronics degree relevant to the role
  • Possess current and up to date knowledge of technologies and applications within the defined vertical(s) to perform the role at a high level of accomplishment
  • Proven track record in performing a similar role within industry. Experience of working in an international organization advantageous
  • Proven track record in providing support to technical applications relevant to the Belden portfolio
  • Experience of delivering training to key stakeholders; internally and/or externally
  • Experience of operating within the defined vertical market(s) advantageous
  • Demonstrate the ability to translate complex, technical information into comprehensible conversation with a non-technical audience
  • Ability to present effectively to a large audience
  • Responsive to questions and able to manage challenge
  • Ability to absorb new learning within technical courses and seminars
  • Ability to create successful internal relationships – across functions and geographies. Demonstrates cultural awareness in their interactions with others.
  • Able to pursue goals with energy and drive even in the face of resistance or setbacks. Completes tasks in full.
  • Business level English essential plus local language.
  • Additional local languages advantageous.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally essential – anticipated to average 50% of time
