A Wall-Mount Copper Cross-Connect that Saves Space and is Easy to Terminate

Discover the REVConnect 10GX Wall-Mount Cross-Connect System, a high-density solution for seamless moves, adds, and changes. Learn how Belden's cross-connect systems improve performance, reduce latency, and enhance traffic management.

Just like there are many kinds of data centers and networks, there are many kinds of cross-connects to support a variety of applications.

For example, cross-connects can be used to connect:

  • Cages, racks, closets or suites
  • Two ecosystems within the same facility with separate data centers
  • Fiber or ISP providers to data centers
  • Two ecosystems within a geographic area

Because they create direct, wired connections, cross-connects reduce network latency, improve reliability and uptime, and enhance security by reducing exposure to public networks.

Our cross-connect roots were established with the copper GigaBIX Cross-Connect System back in 2001. It was built on the proven technology of BIX but designed to align with Category 6 cabling requirements to provide high termination density and make moves, adds and changes easier.

Decades later, GigaBIX Cross-Connect Systems are still being deployed with the industry’s best performance-to-price ratio. This system is one of the reasons that Belden is considered No. 1 when it comes to cross-connects.

As cable signal frequencies increased, we moved on to create three fiber cross-connect solutions, which are designed for environments ranging from static and dynamic MAC environments to large, fiber-dense data centers:

  1. FiberExpress Ultra-High Density (FX UHD) System
  2. FX Enterprise Closet X (FX ECX) System
  3. DCX System

Now that we’ve explored these fiber cross-connect systems, we’ve come full circle to discuss copper cross-connects once again!

Meet the REVConnect 10GX Wall-Mount Cross-Connect Systems

Copper cross-connect systems are ideal for high-density installations that require easy moves, adds and changes.

Our latest copper cross-connect innovation—the REVConnect® 10GX Wall-Mount Cross-Connect System—supports this and so much more.

Because it uses “cut-to-length” management, no special patch cords are required. This means:

  • You don’t need to worry about slack management. The cords will be exactly as long as you need them to be.
  • Patch cord inventory is no longer necessary. This helps you reduce costs and time associated with having to maintain patch cords in various lengths.
  • You can recycle short pieces of leftover cable to achieve cost savings of up to 40% per port.

Because the system can be mounted to the wall, it also lets you take advantage of free real estate and reserve valuable square footage for active components. This may even reduce the number of racks you need.

Moves, adds and changes are made easy because every connection is on the same wall. Because networking equipment needs to be upgraded every three to five years, and equipment density and form factors constantly change, replicating all the equipment ports on a wall-mount system ensures a smooth transition and avoids forklift upgrades to cabling infrastructure.

REVConnect Couplers pair well with the REVConnect 10GX Wall-Mount Cross-Connect System. They provide the best controlled electrical performance possible. With zero crosstalk, they’re nearly “invisible” or transparent in terms of impact on the channel.

The REVConnect Connectivity Approach

Because the REVConnect 10GX Wall-Mount Cross-Connect System is part of the REVConnect Connectivity System, the cross-connect features the same award-winning termination method that all other REVConnect solutions use. This means:

  • No special training or skills are necessary to complete the termination.
  • The same termination technology is used for patch panels, workstation outlets and cross-connects.
  • A single tool covers all steps of the termination process, including cable preparation.
  • Punchdown and single-wire crimping processes are eliminated.
  • A jack or a plug can be terminated onto the same core interface, allowing field-terminated plugs to be terminated just as quickly and easily as a jack.
