The Advantages of Going Beyond Cabling Standards and Recommendations

Bob Ferguson

As Dante protocols become more widespread, understanding the cable and connectivity needed to support it is crucial to achieve expected performance levels.

Most Dante systems require only a 1G Ethernet network (and, thus, Category 5e cable for distances of up to 100 m). While this is true, there are a few benefits to going beyond those requirements in a Dante deployment.

Based on industry conversations and research, we created a list of five factors to consider before choosing Category 5e cabling for Dante project:

  1. Headroom
  2. Power
  3. Futureproofing
  4. Cable robustness
  5. Connectivity
