Belden portfolio

With extensive experience in replacing legacy telecom networks for industrial customers, Belden has refined best practices over the years to ensure successful telecom upgrades. This expertise helps customers save time, reduce costs, and avoid unnecessary stress.

Certified project manager

For every new project, Belden assigns a certified project manager to ensure seamless execution and oversight. This experienced professional proactively manages risks, coordinates with stakeholders, and drives timely project delivery—ensuring high quality while staying within budget. They identify and resolve planning mismatches, technical challenges, and third-party issues that could impact progress.

Belden tailors its project realization services based on the telecom network’s size, complexity, and the expertise of the end user or local partner. These services may include Network Design, Factory Acceptance Tests, and Documentation. If needed, Belden can also provide on-site support for integration, troubleshooting, and implementation.

Design and document

A well-designed network is crucial for ensuring high performance, flexibility, scalability, and cost efficiency. That's why it's important to focus on network design early in the project. Making fundamental design changes later can lead to significant delays and increased costs, so it's best to anticipate and prevent them whenever possible.

Proper documentation of project requirements and activities is essential to prevent valuable information from being lost or limited to only a few people. Keeping thorough records ensures that knowledge is accessible and maintained throughout the project.

Testing

Thorough testing and validation of the network design before on-site installation are crucial for a successful deployment. During the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), Belden assembles, stages, and tests the entire network in the presence of all stakeholders. This milestone ensures that the mission-critical network functions correctly before delivery, giving customers confidence in their solution. Additionally, it helps minimize the need for on-site troubleshooting, reducing costly and time-consuming interventions.

To provide maximum peace of mind, Belden offers three project service packs before XTran solutions are shipped onsite.

Project Service Packs

To ensure a smooth deployment, Belden offers three distinct project service packs before shipping XTran solutions on-site.

Basic project services

This package covers network design, documentation, and testing for all XTran nodes, modules, fiber connections, and software/firmware versions. While it does not include service programming, it is well-suited for customers looking to expand their existing XTran network.

During the basic Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), all equipment is assembled, including interface modules and WAN cards. Each component is tested and validated to confirm proper functionality.

Standard project services

This package includes the design of MPLS-TP tunnels, pseudo wires, protection schemes, and individual services with Quality of Service (QoS). The end user is actively involved in evaluating design options and making decisions. Standard Project Services are recommended when no Layer 3 routing is required.

The test and validation phase uses all the hardware that will be installed in the field. The standard FAT, conducted alongside the customer, includes a detailed test document outlining all procedures. The FAT may take several days, depending on network size and complexity.

Once completed, all parties sign off on the FAT document. Fieldwork is then limited to physical installation, fiber connections, and system boot-up. Since the database has been fully prepared and validated at the factory, the network should go live error-free, ready to support applications.

Extended project services

For more complex XTran networks requiring VPN, unicast/multicast routing, VRRP (Virtual Redundant Routing Protocol), OSPF, or Layer 2 redundancy mechanisms, the extended project services package is recommended. Belden's specialists work closely with the end user to design a robust L2/L3 network, ensuring proper traffic flow and configuration to support the applications.

If third-party access devices are integrated into the XTran network, a carefully planned design ensures seamless protection schemes across all components. Upon successful completion of the extended FAT, the customer receives a fully documented, field-ready solution.

XTran Care

Belden has developed the XTran Care program to support the network throughout its entire lifecycle. Built on decades of experience in telecom network support, this program is designed to maximize uptime for industrial customers, ensuring critical infrastructure remains operational with the right procedures and resources in place.

Care packages

Belden offers three after-sales service packages:

  • SW Care (Software Care) – Provides unlimited access to the 24/7 Care Team.

  • HW Care (Hardware Care) – Extends the standard hardware warranty.

  • Total Care – A comprehensive package that combines both HW Care and SW Care for complete coverage.

24/7 Care Team – your safety net

When a critical event or anomaly occurs in the XTran network, customers and partner service teams need a reliable support system. Communication failures can result in significant financial losses and reputational damage. That’s why the Belden 24/7 Care Team is always on standby to provide expert assistance.

This team consists of highly specialized technical staff with in-depth industrial market knowledge. Equipped with advanced tools and proven processes, they are available around the clock to troubleshoot and resolve issues. If needed, they have direct access to the XTran development teams for further guidance and technical expertise.

Beyond handling urgent network issues, the Care Team also assists with product-related inquiries from trained service staff.

Warranty and spare parts

To ensure continuous network operation, Belden strongly recommends maintaining an inventory of spare parts. The quantity needed depends on the network size and the number of XTran modules in use.

  • Standard warranty: Covers one year
  • Extended warranty: Can be extended up to five years

Extended warranty simplifies the replacement process, eliminating lengthy approval procedures for repairs. Faulty modules are swiftly exchanged for fully functional ones, ensuring minimal downtime.
