For more than 120 years, Belden has been the leader in insulated wire and cable manufacturing. This journey began in 1902 when the Belden company was incorporated with visionary Joseph Belden as president and Albert Beutler as plant superintendent. We’ve steadily expanded our offering to the full technology portfolio available today - from specialized cable and advanced connectivity to switches and routers, cybersecurity and software. Transforming from a modest factory with 10 steam-engine-powered wire magnet machines into a leading global provider of complete connection solutions is no overnight task. Throughout this evolution, Belden products have enabled innovations and industry shifts that transformed the world around us. Things we now take for granted like television, radio, and even the safety of aircraft operations, are made possible using Belden products.

As Belden evolved, so did the technology of the world. It’s been said that the seemingly innocuous wire and cable products that transmit information and electrical power are the equivalent of blood vessels or nerves in the human body. As unassuming as some of these products can be, our company’s achievements over 120+ years have enabled growth in manufacturing, transportation, broadcasting, data management and telecommunications – thus advancing some of humanity’s greatest accomplishments.

When the demand for enameled wire was in short supply and Thomas Edison needed a substantial amount, Belden was there. During World War II, when safe aircrafts were required for battle and electrical energy transmission was needed on land, Belden was there. When families were glued to their TVs watching Buzz Aldrin’s “one small step” on the moon, Belden wire was not only there in most of their televisions but also used in relays aboard the Apollo 11 spacecraft itself. Our work helped usher in the age of streaming and the dawn of Industry 4.0 and sits at the center of the world’s most sophisticated smart buildings and factories.

Although technology has changed over the years, our purpose remains the same today as it was more than 120 years ago—making connections.
